How to Survive Intruders in Anomaly Detected

Intruders end runs—not tilted chairs

Object anomalies make Anomaly Detected atmospheric. Intruders make it lethal. An Intruder is an unrecognizable humanoid or creature presence that must be reported on the Report Tablet under the Intruder category. Ignore one while you tidy Strange Imagery and the threat meter will climb None → Mild → Vague → Evident. Leave Evident unresolved too long and you invite an Unreportable Intruder wipe.

This guide is the survival playbook. Pair it with the roster page Intruders and the tablet workflow in How to Report Anomalies.

The non-negotiable rule

If it might be an Intruder, treat it like an Intruder until proven otherwise. Debating whether a silhouette is “just a weird mannequin anomaly” is how lobbies die. Report Intruder, stabilize threat, then reclassify leftovers.

S-tier placement on the Tier List exists for this reason alone.

Recognition habits

Train these checks every route:

  • Silhouette breaks: shapes that do not match furniture baselines.
  • Motion where props should be still: especially peripheral hallway vision.
  • Face / body wrongness: Mandela-catalogue-style uncanniness is the fantasy—lean into it.
  • Audio / vibe shifts: when the room “feels watched,” sweep Intruder angles before object nitpicks.
  • Teammate silence: if your props lead goes quiet mid-sentence, look for them—and for what scared them.

House teaches clean sightlines (House walkthrough). Office hides silhouettes in darkness (Office). Church multiplies simultaneous threats (Church).

Emergency protocol (say it in voice chat)

  1. Call: “Intruder — [room/hallway].”
  2. Nearest safe reporter opens tablet (R / mobile side button).
  3. Select Intruder — do not finish an object report first.
  4. Cover player watches other approaches during the report.
  5. Confirm success; meter caller announces new threat level.
  6. Re-sweep adjacent rooms before returning to Missing Object hunts.
  7. Debrief in one sentence after Mild or None returns (“Intruder was at stairs”).

If two Intruder suspects appear, resolve one fully, then the next—partial multitasking without a plan creates double Evident pressure.

Understanding Unreportable

Unreportable is the punishment for slow Intruder handling at high threat. You cannot “outskill” it with sprint alone on Office Left Shift. Prevention checklist:

  • Pre-assign Intruder lead before the shift.
  • Keep tablet keybind muscle memory warm (How to Play).
  • Stop object perfectionism at Vague.
  • Never AFK in menus hunting nonexistent codes.
  • Avoid script dependency that fails mid-update (Scripts).

Co-op roles that save lives

RoleDuty during Intruder events
Intruder leadFirst call, primary reporter
CoverWatches flanks / second hostile
Meter callerTracks Mild/Vague/Evident out loud
Props leadFreezes object route until all-clear

Rotate Intruder lead so one player is not always burned out—and so substitutes exist if someone disconnects.

Map-specific survival notes

House

Best place to drill the protocol. Long sightlines make “I thought it was a coat rack” excuses weaker—use that clarity.

Office

Flashlight (F) discipline matters: sweeping beams help silhouettes, but frantic strobing blinds teammates. Sprint in bursts to close distance to a report angle, then stop to tablet.

Church

Density means Intruders plus object anomalies stack. Clear wings with an Intruder check at each threshold. Do not send the entire lobby into the kitchen for a Missing cup while the nave is unsupervised.

Solo Intruder survival

Solo removes cover players. Compensate by:

  • Shorter routes with more frequent hallway turns.
  • Lower tolerance for Vague—treat it like Evident.
  • Accepting Other on ambiguous objects when you need to keep moving toward open sightlines.
  • Practicing tablet open speed daily for ten minutes (Getting Started).

Hardmode and competitive pressure

v.101 hardmode, leaderboards, and win counts (Updates) reward clean Intruder handling under stress. If hardmode wipes you repeatedly, the fix is almost never “learn one more painting”—it is faster Intruder protocol.

Psychological tips

  • Panic closing the tablet without submitting is a common death. Breathe, submit, then run.
  • Laugh after the report, not during Evident.
  • Do not mock teammates who false-positive an Intruder; celebrate the safe instinct and refine later.
  • After a wipe, watch who delayed—coaching beats blame.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is an Unreportable Intruder?

A failure state after Evident Intruder pressure lasts too long. Prevention means reporting Intruders immediately instead of finishing object busywork.

Should I finish reporting a Moved Object before an Intruder?

No. Cancel the object mindset and report Intruder first. Object anomalies can wait until threat stabilizes.

How do we assign Intruder duty in co-op?

Pick an Intruder lead at the start of the shift, plus a cover player. Rotate roles between nights so backups exist.

Does Office darkness make Intruders harder?

Yes. Use flashlight sweeps thoughtfully, sprint in short bursts to a safe report angle, and keep callouts precise.

Where can I learn Intruder visuals?

Read the Intruders page under Players and practice recognition on House before dense Church runs.
